THE JUNVENILE JISTICE CARE AND PROTECTION OF CHILDREN ACT 2000.

Today's child is tomorrow's citizen. Similarly, today's juvenile delinquent may be tomorrow's international criminal as most of the Criminals have their roots of criminality in the childhood. Unless he delinquent roots of the juvenile plant are cut out in the early stage, it all grow into a big tree scattering various branches of criminality and all become a serious threat to unity, integrity and economy of the nation. Thus, in the interests of the nation in general and the individual juvenile delinquent) in particular, certain privileges or immunities are provided for the juvenile delinquents. As such, special courts known as Juvenile Courts' are constituted and special legislations viz. Juvenile Justice Act, the Probation of Offenders Act etc., are passed for differential treatment of the juveniles. a lerge percentage of criminal careers have their roots in the childhood .


The term Juvenile' means “child" and Delinquent' means "criminal". Juvenile delinquent means "Child criminal or crime committed by a child". A juvenile delinquent is a young offender between 15 years and 17 years of age. Juvenile delinquency is a serious social evil since it is a gateway of adult crime. The present Act entitled "the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000" is a progressive legislation for the reformation of the delinquent children. It aims to provide for care and protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of neglected and delinquent children. The main object of the Act is to achieve uniform legal framework for juvenile justice throughout the country.
